Synopsis:
This case is about a small medium enterprise (SME) business that is well known in producing soy sauce and chilli sauce. The business started from a small family business and it gradually expands as the products started to gain customers attention. At the beginning, the products were sold around Northern areas and now it spreads to the Southern parts of Malaysia. Notwithstanding the success of Mr. Sharaani, in placing MUDIM as one of the successful Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia, he still had some worries. The sluggish slow-growth economic environment in Malaysia,product competition with other firms, and the increase in prices of the raw materials could also badly affect the company’s profit margins. Despite the risks that he foreseen, the main concern of Mr. Sharaani was the successor of MUDIM. As the owner and the Managing Director of MUDIM, Mr. Sharaani believed that succession issue was very significant in ensuring his business sustainability.
